Bacteria and other types of microbes interact with their hosts in several ways, including metabolic pathways, development, and complex behavioral processes such as mate recognition. During the mating season, adult males of the lesser long-nosed agave pollinator bat Leptonycteris yerbabuenae (Phyllostomidae: Glossophaginae) develop a structure called the dorsal patch, which is located in the interscapular region and may play a role in kin recognition and mate selection. Using high-throughput sequencing of the V4 region of the 16S rRNA gene, we identified a total of 2,847 microbial phylotypes in the dorsal patches of eleven specimens. Twenty-six phylotypes were shared among all the patches, accounting for 30 to 75% of their relative abundance. These shared bacteria are distributed among 13 families, 10 orders, 6 classes and 3 phyla. Two of these common bacterial components of the dorsal patch are Lactococcus and Streptococcus. Some of them-Helcococcus, Aggregatibacter, Enterococcus, and Corynebacteriaceae-include bacteria with pathogenic potential. Half of the shared phylotypes belong to Gallicola, Anaerococcus, Peptoniphilus, Proteus, Staphylococcus, Clostridium, and Peptostreptococcus and specialize in fatty acid production through fermentative processes. This work lays the basis for future symbiotic microbe studies focused on communication and reproduction strategies in wildlife

La inserción laboral de mexicanos profesionistas en la migración contemporánea a Estados Unidos : un análisis comparativo.

    Get PDF

This low deposition temperature makes the material compatible with flexible substrates. The asgrown layers present a black color, polycrystalline structures, large conductivities, and large visible light absorption. Different studies have reported about the severe oxidation of the layers in ambient conditions. Different compositional, structural and optical characterization techniques have shown that the films turn into ZnO polycrystalline layers, showing visible transparency and semi-insulating properties after total transformation. The oxidation rate is fairly constant as a function of time and depends on environmental parameters such as relative humidity or temperature. Taking advantage of those properties, potential applications of zinc nitride films in environmental sensing have been studied in the recent years. This work reviews the state-of-the-art of the zinc nitride technology and the development of several devices such as humidity indicators, thin film (photo)transistors and sweat monitoring sensors. In this paper, the influence of «The Amusing Science» on the students' attitudes is evaluated. This innovative experience includes the design, construction and assembly of a scientific interactive exposition made up by students and teachers. The results show high rates of students' implication and motivation and a positive influence in their self-steem and personal development. They also suggest an improvement of the interpersonal relationships among students and among students and teachers, as well as of the students' satisfaction to the experience and to Science. The improved interpersonal relationships were translated into science classroom without stating the positive attitudes

El pdf del artículo es la versión post-print.We present a high-frequency fully-differential current-mode buffer to interface off-chip currents with no significant degradation of the frequency response, and to measure current-mode ICs using standard equipment. It has been fabricated in a 0.8μm double-poly double-metal CMOS technology and features more than 37MHz bandwidth. In order to show its functionality, this unit has been incorporated to the front end of a Switched-Current Band-Pass ΣΔ modulator featuring 9 bit dynamic range at 10MHz clock frequency for a 30kHz signal bandwidth centered at 2.5MHz.Peer reviewe

2D-ReS2 & diamond nanoparticles-based sensor for the simultaneous determination of sunset yellow and tartrazine in a multiple-pulse amperometry FIA system

We present a flow injection system with a multiple pulse amperometric detection (FIA-MPA)-based methodology for the simultaneous analysis of sunset yellow and tartrazine. As transducer, we have developed a novel electrochemical sensor based on the synergistic effect of ReS2 nanosheets and diamond nanoparticles (DNPs). Among several transition dichalcogenides for the sensor development, we have selected ReS2 nanosheets since it yields a better response towards both colourants. Scanning probe microscopy characterization shows that the surface sensor is composed by scattered and stacked ReS2 flakes and large aggregates of DNPs. With this system, the gap between the oxidation potential values of sunset yellow and tartrazine is wide enough to allow the simultaneous determination of both dyes. Under the optimum potential pulse conditions (0.8 and 1.2 V) during 250 ms, a flow rate of 3 mL/min and a volume injection of 250 μL, detection limits of 3.51 × 10− 7 M and 2.39 × 10− 7 M for sunset yellow and tartrazine, respectively, were obtained. This method exhibits good accuracy and precision with Er minor than 13% and RSD lower than 8% with a sampling frequency of 66 samples per hour. Pineapple jelly samples were analyzed by the standard addition method, obtaining 53.7 mg/kg and 29.0 mg/kg of sunset yellow and tartrazine, respectively. From the analysis of fortified samples, recoveries of 94% and 105% were obtainedThe authors acknowledge financial support from projects PID2020- 113142RB-C21 and PID2020-113142RB-C22 and TED2021-129416 AI00 funded by MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and P2018/NMT4349 (TRANSNANOAVANSENS-CM) funded by the Comunidad Autonoma ´ de Madrid. Increased Cysteine Availability is Essential for Cadmium Tolerance and Accumulation in Arabidopsis Thaliana

    Get PDF
Employing genetic transformation using an Atcys-3A cDNA construct expressing the cytosolic O-acetylserine(thiol)lyase (OASTL), we obtained two Arabidopsis lines with different capabilities for supplying cysteine under metal stress conditions. Lines 1-2 and 10-10, grown under standard conditions, showed similar levels of cysteine and glutathione (GSH) to those of the wild-type. However, in the presence of cadmium, line 10-10 showed significantly higher levels. The increased thiol content allowed line 10-10 to survive under severe heavy metal stress conditions (up to 400M of cadmium in the growth medium), and resulted in an accumulation of cadmium in the leaves to a level similar to that of metal hyperaccumulator plants. Investigation of the epidermal leaf surface clearly showed that most of the cadmium had accumulated in the trichomes. Furthermore, line 10-10 was able to accumulate more cadmium in its trichomes than the wild-type, whereas line 1-2 showed a reduced capacity for cadmium accumulation. Our results suggest that an increased rate of cysteine biosynthesis is responsible for the enhanced cadmium tolerance and accumulation in trichome leaves. Thus, molecular engineering of the cysteine biosynthesis pathway, together with modification of the number of leaf trichomes, may have considerable potential in increasing heavy metal accumulation for phytoremediation purposes.Dirección General de InvestigaciónJunta de Andalucí
